It’s funny to see how many people online who claim to be conservatives use the label “normie” to describe others—often people under some kind of propaganda, just repeating what they’ve heard—without realizing that they themselves are more “normie” than they think.
For example, if we look at the percentage of gay individuals worldwide, they represent only about 1–3% of the global population.
Conservatism is about tradition and normativity. Is it considered normative to be gay? According to their own standards, it is not. So, by their own definition, the real “normies” are actually themselves.
And if we talk about progressives for a moment: progressives often challenge what’s considered normative, yet many end up reinforcing new norms—becoming the very “normies” they once criticized.
Shooting heroin on the street is not something traditionally considered normative, but the more it’s tolerated, the more normalized it becomes.
Yet, according to conservatives, progressives are the normies—even though these non-normative behaviors, while becoming more visible, remain fundamentally outside traditional norms.
The problem with the term “normie” is that anyone can use it against anyone else, stripping it of any real meaning.
I remember in Canada when weed smokers were ostracized in public and ridiculed for their views and lifestyle.
Now, if you take a walk outside in Canada, it smells like weed almost everywhere.
I’m not saying conservatism is bad, nor that progressivism is bad. What I’m saying is that they might be closer to each other than they think in terms of mental maps and frameworks. After all, who creates these fights? The State.
Statists are all conditioned in the same way, leading them to arrive at the same conclusions as any other “normies”—because ultimately, these two groups are the real normies. They bring nothing new, and nothing true.
They are soldiers at the service of the State, repeating dumb takes about the Constitution or how amazing the welfare state is. And this is sad—but at the same time, when they will be at the top of the mountain and they will fall, I won’t cry for them.
